Papanasam-kumbakonam

I have been to kumbakonam during pongal hols, and with almighty blessings we were able to travel some five temples around kumbakonam.

Kumbakonam is near to tanjore and from trichy it takes some two hours by car.

About temple:
We worshipped lord shiva and asked the temple priest about sthala puranam and here is the info
1.It is a very old temple and one among 108 shivalayam temples.
2.It is said that lord rama prayed here and 108 shiva lingams are installed by him.
3.There is hanumantha lingam just nearby ,walkable distance
4.Ambal sannithi is also there, and lingas are arranged in three rows very beautiful.
One need to get ticket and go inside and see 108 shiva lingas.

Why papanasam?
Ravana was great demon and shiva bhakta, lord rama killed him and got dosha and to ward off this he installed 108 lingams and worshipped.

So papanasam,papam-sin,nasam-destruction  "destruction of sin" is called papanasam.
